EFFICIENCY BOOST FOR QUINTE ACCESS
THANKS TO NEW OTF GRANT

Trenton – Quinte Access will be able to provide more efficient transportation services for persons with disabilities and seniors thanks to a new $ 61,800 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). Lou Rinaldi, MPP for Northumberland-Quinte West, joined OTF representative Martin Halloran in congratulating Quinte Access.

“This grant will allow our seniors and people with disabilities an improved system of access to meet their transportation needs. Access to transportation allows individuals the freedom they need in their daily lives to live, work and play and this grant will only help enhance people's quality of life in Quinte West," said MPP Lou Rinaldi.

Over the next year, the OTF grant will be used to implement a demand response computerized scheduling and mapping program. Since completing 22,310 trips for 2009 ridership has increased over 50% since 2004. With the number of trips and vehicles required each and every day to accommodate this demand the scheduling has become more complexed and time consuming. This new system will allow the administrative functions to be carried out by the current personnel. There will also be an upgrade to the organization’s website, making it altogether accessible for those seeking information on various local transportation and community services.

“We are thrilled to receive this grant as it will enable us to continue providing excellent customer service,” said Nadyne Mattis, Director of Operations. “This specialized software will allow us to optimize our transportation services and expand our ridership while maintaining affordability for our clients by keeping administrative costs to a minimum.”

Incorporated in 1994, Quinte Access provides transportation service to persons with disabilities and seniors residing in the City of Quinte West, the Municipality of Brighton and Prince Edward County.

A leading grant maker in Canada, the Ontario Trillium Foundation strengthens the capacity of the voluntary sector through investments in community-based initiatives. An agency of the Government of Ontario, OTF builds healthy and vibrant communities, www.trilliumfoundation.org.
